Are there any one working on ಅತ್ತಿ or cluster fig based products? I think it can be developed as a meat substitute for vegans like jackfruit because of its texture. We need research on how to cook various meat-substitute foodstuffs including western & eastern ones using figs. There could be three varieties of dry figs namely immature, mature but green without taste and fully ripe sweet ones. Half-matured green figs (tasteless ones just before becoming fully ripe) could be cut into noodle strips. Flour could also be manufactured from dried figs. And figs could also be packed with brine solution like jackfruit. Along with this we need research on how to grow figs year-round. By the way, fig pickles are quite popular now a days.

A few yers back I discussed with a seller in a jackfruit festival about possibility of drying Tuluva jackfruits like dates (soft one). I don't know whether he or anyone else tried it so far. Ripe jackfruit causes gastrointestinal issues. Even grapes can cause acidity but dried grapes have no such issues. Wonder whether similar solution exist for jackfruits!?

Mr. Bhat said that increasing the regional GDP (gross domestic product) from $20 billion to $100 billion is another component of the vision.

Why are they not including northern part of Kasargod closer to Mangaluru to the SBP vision? I think Manjeshwar & Uppala are having enough land for companies wanting big lands & close enough to MIA.

Is Mangalore Becoming India’s Second IT Capital?

Quite contradicting write up. On one hand promoting Mangaluru as future IT destination. On the other hand the builder doesn't have any IT infrastructure in its kit. Property buyers would have appreciated this write up if the builder had announced construction of an IT Park along with it. Currently, in South India itself, apart from Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai other cities like Coimbatore, Vishakhapatnam, Kochi, Trivandrum are far ahead of Mangaluru in IT. Let Mangaluru become Karnataka's second IT capital first. More decent promotion of Mangaluru would have been 'Is Mangaluru becoming one of top ten IT city of India?'.

I don't think the state government is ignoring Manipal-Konaje Knowledge & Health Corridor project. They infact are implementing it on the way towards the monstrous city airport. What DK MP & Udupi MP along with all 15 MLAs could do now is to meet the central transportation minister and ask him to immediately sanction funds for sixlane road from Konaje to Manipal via MIA (Konaje-GattiKudru-Bajal-MJ-MIA-Manipal). I don't have any issue if this corridor is extended in south further upto Uppala in Kasargod. This can be a part of Westcoast Expressway later.

Could Water Metro Corridor be developed as an IT corridor along with tourism?

ONGC has taken up pre-feasibility study to establish green hydrogen plant in Mangaluru: Suresh Gopi

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) has undertaken a pre-feasibility study to set up a green hydrogen plant in Mangaluru for meeting the captive requirement of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL), according to Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi.

He said that the plastic park in Mangaluru approved by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals in January 2022, is in its implementation stage. Its total project cost is ₹62.78 crore, including a Central grant of ₹31.38 crore.

The above Green Hydrogen plant is the same as one of MRPL.

Why didn't the minister address land acquisition issues for Plastic Park? What about speeding up CIPET works as it does not have any land issues?

Phase III: Refinery Project :
The Company has received the environmental clearance from Ministry Environment and Forest for Phase III Refinery Project. The Karnataka Pollution Control board has also issued consent for establishment for the project. The land acquisition work is almost complete and relocation of project-affected people is in final stages of completion. The contractors are already at site for site grading work. The Basic Engineering & Design package for all the four major units have been received from Technology Licensors and the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) by PMC (Engineers India Limited) is nearing completion. Tendering process for critical non-licensed units and captive power plant is at advanced stage.

The work on low cost revamping of CDU & GOHDS at an approximate cost of Rs. 260 crore is in progress. M/s. Uhde India Limited have been appointed as PMC and order for Long Lead items are being placed to expedite completion of revamp work.

What is the land acquisition status for Green Hydrogen Hub at Balkunje, Kollur, Ullepady (Mulki, DK) & Muluru (Kaup, Udupi)?

Can Niddodi be considered for a dedicated Green Industrial Hub having industries like MIR? (the government already has about 700 acres land). How much land is still available in Canara Industrial Area?

Overseas demand for arecanut leaf products surges

Exports of these products have grown by 10% compared to the previous year. CEO of the Canara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Maithreya, stated, “From April 2024, a total of 143 containers of arecanut leaf products, equivalent to 1,024 tonnes, have been exported from NMPT (New Mangalore Port Trust) to overseas markets.”

Agri Leaf, a 100% export-oriented company located in Nidle, Dharmasthala, in Dakshina Kannada, manufactures approximately 2.5 million products per month.

Mangalore Refinery launches Toluene production facility to strengthen India's petrochemical sector

... With an annual capacity of 40 TMT, the facility underscores India’s commitment to self-reliance and global competitiveness in the petrochemical sector.

Toluene, a crucial aromatic hydrocarbon, is used in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, paints, and defense industries. India’s annual Toluene demand is approximately 650 TMT, but domestic production currently meets only 160 TMT. MRPL’s new facility will help bridge this gap, contributing to a foreign exchange savings of around $3 million annually.

... MRPL plans to enhance its refining capacity and focus on producing light and middle distillates from sour and heavy crudes. The company is also looking at integrating into chemicals, renewable fuels, and other emerging areas.

Why not they collaborate with College of Fisheries & CMFRI for sea plants based biofuel? Not only sea but saline fields can be used for growing biofuel from plants that can grow in saline habitats.

I asked the site manager of Bharat Carriers site (next to Jeetbar & D-Mart), Attavara whether it is a software building. He told yes. For another building, Global Business Centre, which is already complete, a guy at site told it is not for software but for marketing & lodge. I even wish Chefs building which is under demolition along with the site earlier identified for Westline Presidential Suites could also be a IT Park!
