Great photos Sawtooth! I love how slender it is. It blends well with Bogus.

With this one wrapping up, here's to hoping another 'hole' bites the dust.

some interesting facts about the ceremony at ktvb:

Quote:
BOISE -- The centerpiece of Boise's growing skyline will approach its final structural height today just after 11 a.m.

The tower's height will be approximately 275 feet when the final beam is lowered into place. Once completed with a spire, it will reach 315 feet.

The building is scheduled to be complete sometime this fall.

FAST FACTS

Cost - $76 - $80 million
Final height - 315 feet
Stories - 18
Years spent as 'Boise Hole' - 14
Three new tenants expected to be announced today

The 18-story 8th and Main Tower has been in construction since last July. The $76 million project will house the headquarters of Zions Bank, along with other businesses, including a law office, gym, four restaurants, and others.

btw, this makes it 35 years that the u.s. bank building has held the title of tallest building in boise (i don't count the airport control tower).

fun facts:

boise population in 1978: ~100,000
boise population in 2013: ~210,000

boise metro pop. in 1978: ~218,000
boise metro pop. in 2013: ~620,000

all i can say is: it's about dang time.

One of those new tenants will be Brick 29 Bistro out of Nampa which is opening a deli. It is too bad they are not opening a full service restaruant in Boise because they are excellent.

Did they do a redesign of the top floor? They're talking about how the last beam of steel is being placed today, but if that's the case it looks like the top floor covers about half the area compared to the renderings.

It actually looks pretty good like that, if this shell is the final product... http://ibeamsystems.com/demo/tlp/

Agreed. Finally A Highrise that doesn't have a completely square top downtown!

It gives the building's form an interesting bit of variety at the top and a nicer presence overall. I agree with you, if that's the final product it's a pleasant surprise.

There's still 8 hours left of their work day so I'm keeping my finger's crossed

i've heard that the final rendering is indeed the final look. the cut-out corner is where heavy machinery is to be placed, but will eventually be walled up. don't quote me... this is just what i've heard.

however, some interesting news: the final height, according to KTVB, will actually be 8 feet taller. the top of the spire will reach 323 feet according to this article:

Whether it stays like this, or is covered up eventually I don't care. I'm just so happy that this project is almost completed. Boise needed to get rid of that hole. It was depressing for everyone.

I agree BoiseAirport, it seems a bit different to me as well. I do like the fact that there is quite a bit more to the top two floors than what I was thinking when they pulled the core forms. I still wish that this building was two or three stories taller, anyway, still a great addition. I can't wait to see the lighting that goes from ground to top when it is lit.

Small amount of steel being attached to some raised thing on the southwest corner. So they're not completely done. Makes me curious as to what that exposed structure is going to hold. Maybe a second spire, outdoor rooftop garden, solar panels, I don't know? So early to tell yet I'm curious as what those couple raised structures are going to hold, if not cover.

Those structures are for supporting large Fluid Cooler and Cooling Tower units for air conditioning and retail applications. These units must be exposed to outdoor ambient air and must also be elevated higher than adjacent walls or structures for proper air flow.

Just curious Killa_B, how the heck do you know so much about this stuff? You're a great help when we have no clue what we're looking at.
