The developer gave Currie a heads up they'll begin removing trees ahead of the nesting season.

"The City of Ottawa has approved the application for Lifting of a Holding Symbol Proposal for 100 Steacie Drive received on October 20, 2025. The Site Plan Application can be commented on now, as it was deemed complete and formally circulated. All comments received prior to approval will be considered by City staff. Notice of this had gone out to anyone who had commented in the past, and to community associations. I just wanted to be sure that everyone in the community had an opportunity to comment on the site plan.

As you may know from watching other developments go forward, tree cutting on site is regulated by City by-laws and overseen by our City’s Forestry Department. Information on the City’s Tree Protection By-law can be read at Tree Protection By-law | City of Ottawa. Representatives from Brigil, the developer in this case, reached out to me yesterday to let me know that they will be clearing some trees from the site ahead of development. Developers tend to clear trees before nesting season begins...which is now. You can expect to see some tree removal from the site shortly. Know that all work is being done in coordination with City of Ottawa Forestry staff to ensure compliance.

Briefly, as many of you are aware, the proposed development is a four-storey apartment building containing 214 residential units and 214 vehicle parking spaces. This was a file that City Council voted against but was unable to be defended at the OLT. It has been a highly frustrating file. However, we are where we are right now. And, you have the ability to send in your comments on the site plan"

There were some minor updates made to this proposal over the last few months. Notably, the drop-off loop at the main entrance has been replaced by a small parking lot, and it looks like some balcony consolidation occurred.

Still think there needs to be a major rework of Steacie at Teron. That corner is not signalled and is a bear to get out of the community in the mornings. With the Point already built, proposals for 2 more apartments on Varley at some point that could flow through here and this 214 unit...something has to give. The tailback on Teron of folks turning left at March creates a traffic snarl that includes slowing OC buses that are travelling on Teron. Syncronized signals with March might help.

What about using the opposite side and connecting to station road instead? Probably not realistic with the train tracks.

Also, can confirm all the trees on that lot have been removed.

Thought I read somewhere that it was a non starter due to those tracks (used 2x per week right?)

Yup, it says once a week. Provides restricted chemicals to make nylon for their carpets.

The Land: The City of Ottawa owns the underlying land (acquired during past municipal amalgamations).

The Tracks: The ties and track infrastructure are owned and independently maintained by the Arnprior-based manufacturing company, Nylene Canada.

The Operations: CN Rail operates the trains, providing the delivery logistics on a contractual basis.

I assumed 2x cause the train has to go back to Arnprior at some point When I bike Watts Creek I'm always on guard on Wednesdays when crossing the line
