This. Quite shocking to see. I wonder if it has anything to do with the massive imbalance between supply and demand? Nah, that would imply some capacity for rational thinking.

The facade is a jumbled mess on this cookie-cutter low-rise wonder. Why this part of Quinpool cannot go higher is a good example of why the Province is about to step in and override HRM's overly restricitive and glacier-like planning rules.

Imagine 30 stories here? It's probably the best lot on Quinpool to support that kind of density.

The demolition permit has been submitted for 6234 Quinpool. Looks like as soon as McDonalds moves next door it will be demolished.

It's too bad. Dexel usual comes up with fairly nice stuff.

Yeah, it's better than the Ted on the same stretch (which looks even more jumbled up, and cheaply finished as well). But together these will create a pretty clunky little stretch, with a lot of clashing materials and colours and bad proportions. Still better than an old McD's, of course.

The Pepperell Street side looks really good, though. I would probably choose something besides grey for the brick, but it's nice.

Looks like somewhere that Batman would be proud to have an apartment! Love the black-out motif...

Odd, their website offers two totally different renderings of the Pepperell St. side. I assume the grey brick one is old. This one posted appears taller. Hope they rethink the dark metal panels. The George already doesn't look great with the sun shining on it.

The building has an odd footprint with that nose sticking out the front. Perhaps they're building around an existing building represented by the green area in the rendering? Is that passageway on the left side of the protrusion the main entrance to the building? Perhaps this is the back of the building?

Just curious, do you mean it simply doesn't look good in direct sunlight? Or is it already weathering?

The green area is actual green space owned by the Shaar Shalom Congreation next door. Works out quite nicely for this development! I have seen them do some events like yoga in this green space before.

Not sure if is weathering or just dirty. The perils of dark cladding is it really shows the dirt.

Crews are on site today installing the protected sidewalk on Quinpool Road. This marks the start of construction.

The building permit was issued last week.

8 Floors | 155 Units | Mixed-Use | $19.3M | 6353 Pepperell Street, Halifax | Dexel Developments

I've updated the thread title to match the official data.

Dexel is seeking a substantive DA amendment to allow two more floors on this building under the Housing Accelerator Fund changes. This would bring the total to 193 units.
