Plans for Amazon distribution center gets Detroit City Council approval
Quote:
A development proposal that would bring a $400-million Amazon distribution center to the former Michigan State Fairgrounds was approved by Detroit City Council on Tuesday.
Construction could start in the coming weeks on the 3.8-million-square-foot distribution center there. The Sterling Group and Hillwood Investment Properties will buy and develop the site, and, as a part of the deal, will pay for a $7-million Detroit Department of Transportation transit center.
It's been more than a decade since the Michigan State Fair was held in Detroit, at Woodward Avenue and 8 Mile, and the deal likely marks the end to an era of failed projects at the site.
