Updated Design Revealed For Robert A.M. Stern’s 555 West 22nd Street As Excavation Makes Headway, In Chelsea

Quote:
Recent photos of 555 West 22nd Street show excavation in full swing for the future residential tower in Chelsea. The project is being designed by Robert A. M. Stern Architects while SLCE Architects is the architect of record. Related is the developer, and new renderings show a substantial update to the design since images were first revealed in early 2018.

The project is composed of a 26-story main tower, with a small low rise portion to the east. The light facade, possibly limestone, matches most of RAMSA’s recent work in New York City, like 70 Vestry Street, down in Tribeca. A flat crown will cap the roofs of both sections of the project. Landscaping will accompany and line every setback, although its prominence has decreased in the new rendering.

The site runs along Eleventh Avenue between West 22nd and 23rd Street, across from the Hudson River Greenway and Pier 62 at Hudson River Park. Amenities will include a lounge room, event room, a game center, a business center, and a fitness center. There will also be a basement pool with lockers, a bicycle storage area, and a dog spa. Views of the Hudson River and uninterrupted sunset vistas will compliment every window along the symmetrical western elevation.

While the ground floor is comprised of the main lobby for residents, the second and fourth floor feature a private gallery space along with the first 13 residential units. The overall profile matches the average building height in the vicinity, the white facade will also match the light tones of 551 West 21st Street, directly across the street to the south.
