From memory there were actually 2-3 different groups actively working to develop the same hotel site but they were not working with each other, not talking to each other and none of them was actually developing the hotel, rather they were all project brokers similar to Center Venture.
Eventually the whole thing blew up but not until after the Carlton Inn was purchased and demolished.
