One of San Antonio's most beloved pizzerias will be closed for good by the end of next month. Chef Stefan Bowers took to Instagram over the weekend to announce that Playland's last day of service will be on June 30.

"To the staff, I love you," wrote Bowers. "To our guests and restaurant family, my gratitude can’t be put in to words. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did."

Bowers went on to explain that the closure was prompted when he was presented with an opportunity to move out of the real estate at 400 E Houston Street. From the ashes of Playland, Bowers teased a new restaurant and market concept amidst the lofts at 1221 Broadway this fall. The new joint will not serve pizza and will operate under a yet to be announced name.
