Kalamazoo has a few -
- "The Zoo" and "Zoo City" are most common (other variations on this are "Kazoo", "K'Zoo" and "KZO" - but these are less common)
- "Beer City" is thrown around a lot these days. But other cities (even within Michigan) are arguably more deserving (like Grand Rapids).
- You still hear "Mall City" once in a while - Kalamazoo claims to be home to the first modern outdoor pedestrian mall in the country, designed by Victor Gruen.
- "Celery City" and "Paper City" - referring to two historic local industries, mostly gone - rarely used in common parlance anymore.
- "Bedding Plant Capitol of the World" - due to all of the greenhouses - really rolls off the tongue!
