Another video still from this August. Here CN C40-8W #2197 and C44-9W #2668 work up Steelton Grade with a tanker consist, about to pass below Becks Road in the far western outskirts of Duluth. This was taken from the Munger Trail, which can be seen in the background crossing over the tracks. Working by the grade is a crew cleaning up the old, original easement of Steelton Grade, which was single-track. The grade was improved recently, work being done in the early spring of this year. Upgrades included a second track, a track re-routing to make it more straight-forward, and new signals.

Being closer to roads and trails than before and seeing a greater frequency of longer consists than in the past, Steelton Grade is a railfanner's paradise. The only downside is that it's almost entirely CN GEVOs, which can get repetitive, but I highly recommend it. It's one of those treasures of the Zenith City that you won't find in any tourist guide.
