The Brush House development called for two separate buildings constructed on that block because an individual who owned a SFH sized parcel on the east side of the block wouldn't, I'm assuming, sell to the city. With a 5 story apartment building on each side built to the lot line, that lot would be pretty much unusable or at the very least unlikely to be developed anytime soon. Hopefully this will give the city a chance to acquire that lot and possibly the vacant gas station also on that block to consolidate all the parcels for one project.
