LA rail systems like to take sharp turns and detours in order to cover more stops and a lot of underserved areas in one go rather than going the fastest route which is a straight line. In effect, you try to please everyone and you please no one because it takes so damned long. It should be faster, but driving still has that advantage even as congestion gets worse.
