Hard Rock ceremony marks near completion of $1.5B hotel

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino held a ceremony where it placed the final beam at the highest point of construction for its new guitar-shaped hotel.

Hundreds of people, including civic, business and community leaders, huddled Monday morning in Hollywood to commemorate the $1.5 billion project's milestone. Years in the making, the expansion kicked off in 2017.

The beam featured signatures from Seminole Tribe members, politicians and construction workers, plus flags of the U.S., Florida and the Seminole Tribe, and a small tree, a long-standing Scandinavian ritual for celebrating newly completed buildings.

“A vision has truly become a reality as we place this final beam atop this iconic landmark,” Hard Rock International Chairman and Seminole Gaming CEO Jim Allen said.

The new hotel is 450 feet high and will have 638 rooms, with all rooms larger than 525 feet. The existing hotel, built in 2004, has 469 rooms and suites; a 41,000-square-foot spa; plus 60,000 square feet of retail, restaurants and nightclubs.
