Speaking of the Ithacating blog, here's a couple of recent entries about downtown activity.
First up is Press Bay Alley expansion. It's a fairly recent development and rather unique for Ithaca, though I know other cities have similar locations. their facebook page:

Next is a big project just off the Commons, City Center. This should be a real asset to the downtown area, and bring hundreds of additional residents to downtown.
