As for Horvat, I see it as a big loss. When he was drafted, he was touted as a playoff performer, and he showed that in the bubble year. You new guys like him in the playoffs. He still had lots of good years left on a team with Pettersson, Hughes, Demko, and now Kuzmenko. Not a long haul rebuild needed to be done here.

That said, this draft could be huge for Vancouver Probly top 6 pick, and a 15ish overall pick in a deep draft.
Vancouver has to re-sign Pettersson to a long-term contract - far from a sure thing. Demko may have bad hips so his best days (which really weren't as great as Canucks fans make them out to be) may be behind them. They opted for signing an aging toxic player to a long-term contract instead of trading him and signing Horvat long-term. The defense is one of the worst in the league with only one top-4 d-man.

The Canucks are likely years away from contending for a playoff spot. That's what happens when draft poorly and trade away draft picks like Benning did. With Canada's worst owner in Aquilini I am skeptical the Canucks will take the proper methodical approach to building a complete team.
