Nah rick m, I didn't start working for ARCO at Fifth & Flower until at least 1974. The Engstrum was still up then. I actually viewed a model apt there in the late 1970's. I think it might still have been in place in 1981 when I left DTLA. The Engstrum had, of course, been obliterated by Library Tower by the time I came back to ARCO as a consultant in 1995. I don't actually know the demo date, but it wasn't 1970.

And speaking of rats, former Richfield Oil employees, who were housed in the Superior Oil Building directly across Flower St from the Richfield Building, during its demolition in 1968-9, told me they were horrified at the number of rats that poured out of the basement levels when their much-beloved and beautiful former "home" was destroyed.
