I am a liberal democrat. I have an altruistic worldview that I believe was passed to me in utero and further nurtured in me while being raised as well as a healthy amount of contrarianism that I have acquired with age. I believe in what some call socialism is appropriate in certain areas of society where the free market cannot or will not provide the public good and who's profit motives are misaligned with the interests of the most, in particular health care, schools and transport. That said, I have issues with Rep. O-C in the way she approaches free market RE development and the misguided class warrior claims of gentrification that development might bring. I cannot believe I am about to link this article, but there was a
Reason piece just yesterday that sums up the issue of SY. And while I do not agree with their underlying absolutist free market position that the infrastructure investment required for SY redevelopement is not worthy of public subsidy, for another angle's sake it is worth a read.
