The thing about this stadium being built in Willets Point, where they are planning to build mostly housing in the housing starved city, is I don't see a reason why they couldn't put the stadium on the parking lot west of Citi.
A parking deck could be built between the two stadiums to make up for lost parking.
Yes, I know it's technically parkland, but considering the amount of housing they could build on the proposed site, it would have made more sense to put the stadium there.
Given that alternative, I think even the NIMBYs would see the reasonable nature of that. We're talking about what is now essentially large parking lots. And given the push now for what would be a casino on those lots, it just seems like everything is in the wrong place.
It's not as if Flushing Meadows hasn't seen stadium expansion. The tennis center is the biggest thing in the park, and has always been expanding.
