And back to what I said: that’s the reason why there’s no express service on the METRO!!! There’s also a reason why NYC, Chicago, and even Philadelphia has either express or skip-stop service is because all those cities are over 100 sq. mi. in land area while DC is only about 61 sq. mi.

The planners and designers of the METRO didn’t consider towards building and constructing express service due to DC’s size. Yes, it would’ve been much more impressive if the WMATA provided express service to IAD from DC but when you have to Lincoln Memorial, the White Hose, and the US Capitol at relatively close range from one another, express service isn’t necessary.

Now compare the WTC, Chelsea, 34th St, 42nd St, and 125th St in Manhattan. Look at the Loop and head northward to Wrigley Field all the way to Howard Station in Chicago. And check out why the Broad St Line has express stations. The reason being is, once again, those cities are much bigger in land area as well as population as DC, therefore those cities warrant having express service. DC’s metro is a fine metro, with or without express service, and it’s similar to BART in the Bay Area, another system which doesn’t have express service.
