The San Jose City Council on Tuesday night gave unanimous approval to an 18-story office tower that the Sobrato Organization wants to bring to a key corner in downtown San Jose.
The project, called Market Street Towers, would rise at the southern edge of Plaza de Cesar Chavez next to the historic Hotel Montgomery and across the street from the Westin San Jose.
But don't expect construction to begin immediately at the site, which is now a parking lot. The Mountain View-based Sobrato Organization, one of the region's most prominent developers, does not plan to start construction until it has a tenant on board.
