Luther's Cafe — beloved diner and drag show venue — closes temporarily

https://www.expressnews.com/food/res...d-17502491.php

Through the dusty windows, tarps could be seen draped over some tables, while other four-tops were stacked in the middle of the large dining room of the ground-floor unit of the Tobin Lofts at 1503 N. Main Ave. Luther's, which opened in 1949, moved into the space in 2012 after decades of operating in a nearby former gas station.

Luther's website did not provide any further information about the closing. The restaurant's Facebook page indicated Luther's is "Temporarily Closed." A voicemail seeking comment was not immediately returned.

Luther's has long been a key fixture in the heart of San Antonio's "gay strip" along North Main Avenue, where several LGBTQ-friendly businesses thrive. The distinctive rainbow-colored Pride Crosswalk just outside the restaurant's doors was funded in part by Luther's owner, Randy Cunniff, through the sale of Fiesta medals in 2018.
