In other old school news, a developer is planning to transform the old Holmes Street School on the lower eastside into 41 efficiency-and-1-bedroom apartments.

It's currently going through an OPRA (obsolete property rehabilitation act) certification stage to have the building declared "functionally obsolete" for tax purposes. The developer says it will have "high-end" finishes, which given the neighborhood is something I was surprised to hear. The renovation includes the total re-landscapping of the property, which was developed in 1923.
