Hard Rock Hotel Readies For Construction At 159 West 48th Street In Times Square

The construction crane has been assembled at the site of the future Hard Rock Hotel at 159 West 48th Street, signaling that work is set to commence on the Times Square development. Located between Sixth Avenue and Seventh Avenue, the 225,000-square-foot, 445-room hotel is being designed by Berg + Moss Architects and developed by Extell in partnership with Hard Rock International. The plot measures 13,000 square feet and has yet to see the superstructure rise above street level.

According to renderings, the hotel should consist of a relatively tall tower with significant prominence over the neighboring buildings. The main southern elevation will be covered in glass and the Hard Rock logo will be emblazoned at the very top, just below the roof parapet. The logo will also appear on the eastern elevation, above a lower setback. Hotel amenities will include a rooftop lounge and bar, a restaurant, a lobby lounge, and an underground speakeasy.

The Hard Rock Hotel joins a recent flurry of construction in Times Square. Other nearby projects that are ongoing or recently completed include the TSX Hotel at 1568 Broadway, which just across the street from the Edition at 20 Times Square, the renovation of interiors and exterior of the Times Square Theater at 215 West 42nd Street, and the Margaritaville Resort at 560 Seventh Avenue.

No completion date has been announced yet for the Hard Rock Hotel.
