Things have been pretty quiet with regards to the VA's desire to move to or near Mission Bay, but SF Business Times has an update on the situation. Looking to develop a public-private partnership to fund a $500 million plan in Mission Bay.

Three options for siting:

1. Salesforce land across Third from UCSF campus. Article mentions that Benioff has been rumored to be trying to find a way to donate at least some of that land to UCSF.

2. Block 40, the triangular parcel that will be squeezed in between 16th, future Owens, Mariposa, and 280. Developers have already submitted concept plans for 700k SF of office on the site, but obviously that could be changed. UCSF had been rumored to be looking at the site as a possibility for its plans for 300k SF of ancillary space, but things have apparently gone quiet on that project, so not sure what's going on there.

3. The most puzzling one: Current UCSF land. All of the UCSF campus is pretty much accounted for already...the research campus is going through finalization of master planning right now, and they're trying to squeeze in every bit of research, administrative, and housing they can, so I can't imagine VA being able to build there. So that leaves the hospital campus, which in theory has the space but which is planned to house an eventual expansion of UCSF's own hospital there. UCSF talks of a shared UCSF/VA space as being ideal, but I just don't see how you can fit all of that programming on UCSF's land.
