The spirit of the thread is more about products or companies that sell products/services that built their brand around something specific to a city (examples: city's name, street name in the city, historical figures of the city who are famous for reasons other than the brand itself, etc.)

Steel, the product, obviously has very strong cultural ties to Pittsburgh -- "the Steel City." So much so that the football team is named the Steelers, and the American Iron & Steel Institute requested that the Steelers use their logo on their helmets. The Steel branding is much more associated with the Steelers than it even is with the product/industry. Instant association/tie with/to Pittsburgh.
Far more than Cadillac or Pontiac brands are associated with Detroit, for instance. |
But the Steelmark logo is the opposite. The Steelers borrowed the Steelmark logo and made the explicit tie to the city of Pittsburgh. Without the Steelers borrowing it for their logo, what would be the link?
