Coney Is. coaster revival

The site of an old Coney Island roller coaster that was immortalized by Woody Allen and then torn down to make way for a Mets farm team in 2000 is going to be revived — possibly with a new thrill ride to compete with the Cyclone, The Post has learned. The city today will begin seeking proposals from developers to bring rides, games and other entertainment to an acre of city-owned land at West 15th Street and the boardwalk that once housed the Thunderbolt roller-coaster. City honchos, sources said, would love to see a new coaster back at the narrow tract — a key first step toward bringing attractions back to the boardwalk west of Stillwell Avenue.
The wooden Thunderbolt opened in 1925 and was in operation until 1982. It was built atop a 19th-century home, originally known as the Kensington Hotel. In Allen’s 1977 “Annie Hall,” the house under the coaster was the childhood home of lead character Alvy Singer. It was actually occupied until the mid-1980s. It was torn down in 2000.Despite calls for the Thunderbolt to be landmarked, the rickety ride and house was razed in 2000 on orders from then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who saw it as an eyesore for fans at the minor league ballpark being built for the Brooklyn Cyclones.
