Back when AMLII River North ( 453 N Clark ) was built the building was widely derided for using painted concrete instead of cladding. working next to it I can assure you that having the bottom 2 or 3 floors clad in real marble makes it so that nobody notices the rest. The challenge is to put up nice materials on the base and then have that difference worked into the design.
