Stevens Institute Of Technology’s Expansion Nears The Halfway Mark In Hoboken, New Jersey

Quote:
Construction is nearing the halfway mark on the much-anticipated Student Housing and University Center at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. Design Collective and Wallace Roberts and Todd are the designers of the development, which consists of 16- and 18-story towers that rise from a three-story 70,000-square-foot base. The project aims to house 994 students, helping accommodate Steven’s projected campus population of 3,500.

Recent photographs show the two-tower development quickly ascending above the hilltop. Construction cranes stand above each superstructure, and the wooden formwork and steel rebar can be seen protruding from the top story, awaiting a pour for the next level of floor plates, perimeter columns, and inner walls. Work on the glass curtain wall has yet to commence. The project is aiming for LEED-Silver certification.

The university center is planned to provide a fitness center, a game room, dining venues, a convenience store, a multipurpose space for conferences, lectures, and university events, a private dining room to host guests, and flexible lounge areas. The living spaces come in single, double, and suite-style apartments, and amenities range from kitchenettes in each unit, private in-suite bathrooms, a refuse/recycling room on each level, and shared study lounge on the residential floors. A two-story bridge framed with large diagonal trusses connect the two towers and will make room for a recreational room, study, and lounge spaces.

Completion is expected during the 2021-2022 academic year.
