Petronas partners Aerodyne for drone-based solutions

KUALA LUMPUR (April 25): Petronas Technology Ventures Sdn Bhd (PTVSB), Petronas’ technology commercialisation arm, will partner with Aerodyne Oil and Gas Sdn Bhd to explore opportunities for the deployment and commercialisation of drone-based solutions.

The two companies signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) on Thursday (April 21) to boost the use of such technology in the energy industry, which is expected to drive operational optimisation, while reducing carbon footprint and improving worksite safety.

It will also support the national oil company's efforts to enable remote and autonomous operations through its robotics and digitalisation expansion.

In a statement on Monday (April 25), Petronas president and group chief executive officer Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Kamadjaja Aziz said the partnership is a testimony of both organisations’ shared vision to propel the country to the forefront of global drone technology solutions.

“With Petronas’ in-house technologies and Aerodyne’s expertise, we look forward to the exciting potential that drone-based technology will bring for the energy industry, as well as other sectors, particularly in improving safety and reducing carbon footprint at worksites.

“Both companies will also look into technology enhancement, human capital development, establishment of related regulations and standards, as well as push to liberalise the usage of drone services in Malaysian industries,” he said.

Meanwhile, PTVSB chief executive officer Dr Mahpuzah Abai said the combined expertise of the two corporations will open up new possibilities for drone-based solutions.

“With this collaboration, the sky is the limit as we are joining forces with a homegrown drone services provider, now ranked first in the world,” he added.
