As for that Canadian Tire, I appreciated it being scaled to walking and biking, so no large parking lot to cross to get to the door (especially when coming from the bus.) As well, it made the main entrance to the south so more energy efficient (although being sheltered it isn't as important as say, all the stores in the YIG plaza in Barrhaven which open directly to the north wind.

There is no door facing Carling which I found highly offensive when I went there on foot once. I was also walking from a job next to Westgate so I also had the treat of walking the far way around to the parking lot. Similar treatment to the Superstore on Richmond.
