it's not rude; that's a valid question for those not familiar with the background.

the lot for this tower has been empty for 25 years. there have been numerous proposals for it, but all of them failed for various reasons. there was even a story that the site was cursed by a chinese businessman who was forced out of the old eastman building on the site when the city tried to sell it.

construction for a 25-story building started on the site about 10 years ago, but then abruptly stopped because the developer went bankrupt. since then, the site has been a deep, ugly hole filled with rebar and debris… a scar on an otherwise great downtown.

boiseans didn't think the site would ever be developed until Gartner showed up and built this tower. given the history, a party to celebrate the completion is in order.
