I like pretty much nothing about this lifeless twin proposal :(

They're different. I need to digest more to fully evaluate.
Very surprised this is moving ahead into application already. I'm amazed there is enough confidence out there to propose these projects. It would be absolutely brilliant to see the numbers on this one considering the astronomical money paid for the land. EDIT: For my amusement; $245 million paid for the land 433,657 sq/ft at an average of 500sq/ft to build = $217 million Not including anything else that's $462 million. 455 units total means roughly a million a unit to break even. |
If these get built I would hope that all ends up being real curved glass.

I think we can all agree that these twins are an improvement over the original proposal.

They better replace the White Spot they are demolishing !
|
Why?
|
cause its a good spot to eat
|
I think he means have White Spot return to the new building.
*********************** Comments: - The curves are different for the area, so it makes the building unique. - BUT - the 2 towers are sandwiched in between straight-edged / rectangular buildings at 1500 West Georgia and the new one next door, so they don't have much breathing room. - The tower balconies would be better as wraparound balconies. Some of the ones shown are uselessly narrow and taper off to useless space. Fewer curves would be more elegant - like the 1166 West Pender office tower. - The podium balconies are too regular compared to the variation shown on the tower - cheapens the effect - looks like a cruise ship. Think One Bloor East in TO. - Mechanical penthouses on the south elevation should step back - they look a bit overbearing. |
Why do the renders show so many people milling around like it's the mall?
This is going to be another dead zone.... This area is fast turning into another souless Coal Harbour, but even more boring. |

White Spot has bottomless fries....
********* PS - It's surprising they are proposing such a bulky podium - especially on the ceremonial park entry - and across from Bayshore's openness. But I'll bet it's because they can't fit the massing in the height envelope mandated by shadowing limits - i.e. explaining the tapered tops It would almost look better if the podium were lifted to mid-tower and became a bridge. |
The design has been modified since the 2017 one:
https://images.dailyhive.com/20190417135129/1608-1616-West-Georgia-Street-Vancouver-2019-3.jpg I do have some inside information on this development which is telling me that they don't expect the city to approve this but are trying anyway to see what the city says and if they can modify it to get approved. |
Usually how a rezoning works.

I don't understand the hate. Those look amazing and curved glass would look spectacular. I also like the size of the podium facing West Georgia Street.
This area is going to look incredible in just few years. |
