Initially, however, I thought the tower was a renovated Commie Block. It does look a little, well, blocky.

Good to see Effort Trust is back to constructing new residential buildings.

Seems like they have lagged behind since Arthur Weisz died, it's been mostly just repairing of existing buildings and doing retail (Heritage Greene)

Took me a minute to figure out what I was looking at as well, but the Town houses and 10 storey are going in that parking lot on the corner.

I was confused because the existing red brick apartment building on the left is already named Brockton.

I'm really liking the mix of apartment building and townhouse - looks unique!

It's just a pity this area looks so dated.. the view across the street isn't that great, and this is kinda tucked away in apartmentville...

still.. any good architecture is welcomed!

The final say is not the architect! The final say on looks and anything to do with the building goes to the owner who is paying the bills. They will set the standards and look of the building no mater how progressive or innovative the architect is. Some builders/developers have a look (signature) that they love and always stick to it. That is why some building look cheap. And why with some buildings, the finished product does not look like the renderings. They change mid-stream to keep cost down. Some are progressive or want something that stands out while other only want it built as cheap as it can be built.

It comes down to the architect is given a pot of money and has to make the building fit into the pot and not over flow!

Depending on when this starts, and when the Corktown Plaza project starts, I should be able to provide some overhead shots of the site from my balcony - and perhaps a construction time-lapse video when all is said and done.

I agree, this project is awesome - could use these all over downtown (+ ground floor retail)
