DUBAI | Burj Dubai LEGO Model | 1.3 M - Pinnacle / 1.0 M - Roof | 162 FLOORS | T/O

I've split this topic from the main Lego Skylines thread.

I will be posting periodic updates on the construction progress of my Burj Dubai Lego skyscraper model. I'm building it to an approximate scale of 1/650 so that it matches the scale of my other fourteen Lego skyscaper models . Total height will be about 1.3m.

I don't have a timeline on when it will be finished. Typical construction time for one of my models is about three months. Sometimes it can take even longer depending on the complexity of the design. The good news is this model won't need to wait to be fitted with glass.

Nice start!
I predict that Bricklink's supply of 2x2 round light blue-gray plates will be depleted!

Thats great! Can't wait to see it finished!

awesome!

SD360 Aug 18, 2009 1:12 AM

that be kind of cool if you had cranes on the central core, building the floors

This will be fun to watch. Thanks for keeping us updated.

I suppose I could throw something up there for fun. Obviously I am not replicating the actual construction sequence or crane schedules of real Burj. The "sand" baseplate and yellow cranes were added just to liven up the photos. I will eventually be modeling the finished grounds around the base of the tower. I need to wait to see how the real ones turn out first. :)

This is wicked!, I love you're work and i'm even a fan of you on Moc Pages! CN Tower was quite the art, this will sure top it off! I challenge you to build a lego 1 World Trade Center.

SD360 Aug 23, 2009 4:25 AM

@J.M. are you serious. the current 1 world trade center in new york.
@jsr. the cranes were exactly as I thought it would be:cool:

JDRCRASH Aug 23, 2009 4:39 AM

SD360, regarding the Burj Dubai BAT, yeah Andisart has been working hard with Simfox and a few other guys to finish it.

SD360 Aug 23, 2009 5:13 AM

i'm very aware of that. i'm a member on the site. i think this shows us what the complex will look like once completed. I'd be amazed to see this in lego.

Yes the currently being contructed One World Trade Center aka Freedom Tower. He does so well with the shapes of these he has to try it.

Interesting.

How are you planning to clad it?
What pieces are you going to use for the glass walls?

Sorry guys, but the claddding is already there in the form of translucent clear elements. I know it is not as strong visually as I would like and hence I can see that the model does show some resemblence to an unclad Burj. The scale I am using has each floor consisting of two plate elements heightwise. One plate is a horizontal floor visual divider (sort of a spandrel) and the other is a "window". Ideally I should have a lot more "window" vs "spandrel" for each floor, but I would have to build at a larger overall scale to do that - and that wouldn't match the other models I have built.

It's just one of the many compromises that I have to make in the design.
