Stupid name for a Chicago building, IMHO

For one thing, how is NEMA supposed to be pronounced?

Noomah as in a shortened New Market?

Kneemah?

Nehmah?

Naymah?

:???:

That could be the angle and that part of the building in shade.

With the structural frame being white...

What’s a Nema?

To me it looks like it can turn out kinda dark. Im happy with the color of the glass.

I guess it's going to look closer to this then? Ran it through a photo filter in photoshop.

Nice work.. And to me thats still dark enough. I do agree though it could be darker and better.

Im more curious about the concrete. Will it be left like it is? Will it be painted? Will it be covered by some form of cladding?

My money is on cladding, only one that makes sense to me

KWillChicago May 5, 2018 4:28 AM

Black cladding would look awesome on this one.

OMG! I lived in NEMA San Francisco. Awful.

Although I'm sure it will go over well in the South Loop. They are full of amenities that a lot of people seem to enjoy.

They are 'painting' it white... you can see the test samples on the west elevation...

Kumdogmillionaire May 5, 2018 3:32 PM

Wait, why do you say 'painting' and not just painting. Is it a plaster or something, so you don't want to call it paint?

Just out of curiosity, what was so bad about NEMA in San Francisco? Had a friend who lived there, and from the one time I visited, it seemed pretty nice.
