I don't know why, but it warms my heart to know that "lanky" has not only been around a while, but it was worthy of a formal periodical.

Right, the relatively large block size of downtown Chicago has long led to pretty beefy buildings of all heights, but when I was talking about office "towers", I meant buildings over 500' tall (my apologies for not being more clear), and all of chicago's pre-war 500+ footers have some form of tapering massing as they rise.

The Prudential building was really the first "big" office tower in chicago (ie. >500') to completely embrace the MCM aesthetic of the big fat wide box-tower, a very basic and economical form repeated countless times (with different curtain wall dressing) over the past 7 decades.

For any that haven't taken this walk, this is an incredible showcase of the confluence and way to experience this 'new' part of the city. Even better at night.

could have been my eyes deceiving me but it looks like they were testing the crown lighting on the west side of the building they have made quite a bit of progress with the scalloped panels covering the mechanical penthouse... I took a photo on my phone but it came out not great... anyone else see the top tonight around sundown?

I'm pretty sure that's just the sunset/twilight from the west reflecting on the building.

Anyone know if the Salesforce signage will be on both east and west side of the crown? Or they just allowed one of them?

Would the admins please correct Salesforce Tower's height on the Diagrams page? It should be 850 ft, not 835 ft. Thanks.

FYI a permit was issued for an 8 floor buildout here on Thursday for an estimated cost of $25.35M. Owner on the permit is Salesforce..

There's a request section called "Building Requests & Database Corrections" near the bottom of the main forum page. Not sure if the people who update diagrams are reading this thread.

Is this tower gonna have an observation deck? if they do, the views facing towards the lake would be crazy

Kinda - but not paid. You'd have to find an event to go to (or throw one yourself).

The top floor of the Salesforce Chicago Tower will feature an Ohana Floor, meaning that the space will be available during non-business hours for nonprofits and foundations to use at no cost. As Salesforce EVP of Real Estate Elizabeth Pinkham explains, “When we approach our real estate, we design our offices as spaces that feel like home, where we can welcome our entire Ohana (“family” in Hawaiian). This includes our employees, customers, partners and the communities in which we live and work … In a typical office setting, the top floor is often dedicated for executive offices. Instead, we take the most sought after floors and design them as open flexible hospitality spaces. During the day, our Ohana Floors are open for employee events and then on weeknights and weekends, these one-of-a-kind spaces with jaw-dropping views are made available for nonprofits and foundations at no cost — aligning with our values of giving back.” Ohana Floors can be found across Salesforce’s named towers globally and to date, events in these spaces have raised nearly $10M for charity.
