It looks like a different name on the packages & the tint of the neg. is different than the rest in this series. http://imageshack.us/a/img39/9703/ns7h.jpg __ |

http://imageshack.us/a/img196/3663/fpvv.jpg I think it's actually a 1950 Mercury, which would have hit the showrooms in Fall, 1949. The book Fabulous Boulevard by Ralph Hancock was published in September, 1949. http://imageshack.us/a/img404/8031/x9s7.jpg The calendar in the back has the same pattern of days as November, 1949. http://i699.photobucket.com/albums/v...t/ns7h_rot.jpg Any old TV experts out there who could date these Admirals? http://i699.photobucket.com/albums/v...t/kj9w_rot.jpg |
:previous: Interesting clues Scott (and thanks for reversing that photo/neg. I posted).

I just noticed this.
Is that machine-like thingy with the knobs and Hopalong Cassidy (?) photo, one of those discredited x-ray machines for feet? http://imageshack.us/a/img14/893/9rjm.jpg ebay __ |

Anticipating the Gold Line Route
Alvaro, Tovangar2,
I am happy to have been able to shed some light on this mystery. Subsequent to my post, Chris, my ex Santa Fe switchman buddy was discussing the wall with another mutual friend who has been working passenger trains out of LAUPT since the early days of Amtrak. He is currently a conductor on the Sunset. Here is the text of his email to Chris: "That's not the same wall. It was moved back about a passenger. car length (approximately 70 feet - annotation by me) to accommodate the Busway. I have two (5&6) of the track numbers from the south end of the sheds that were cut off when tracks were shortened. The shed ends were laying on the ground, so _________." Anyway, I have to get off my lazy butt and set up a photo site account so I can post photos of LA that I shot over the years. Any suggestions as to the easiest site to use? Cheers, Jack |

You might have noticed the thread has slowed down recently. We would extremely welcome any photographs you or your friends might have of Los Angeles and the railroads. __ |
and speaking of railroads:
Earlier this evening I came across this rather odd and misguided cover of the dining car menu for the 'City of Los Angeles'. http://imageshack.us/a/img545/9615/trts.jpg http://www.ebay.com/itm/Union-Pacifi...-/231001422248 |
and speaking of railroads:
Earlier this evening I came across this rather odd and misguided cover of the dining car menu for the 'City of Los Angeles'. ER, odd and misguided certainly does describe that cover! What were the boys down at the ad agency thinking? A post three martini lunch effort, perhaps? I will certainly attempt to contribute some meaningful photos to the site. Indeed, I felt quite fortunate I was able to remember the aerials of LAUPT on page 4 and reference them for further use. One of the many wonderful things about the site is that the photo inventory continues to grow and paint expanding visual history of the city throughout the years. Cheers, Jack |

Any old TV experts out there who could date these Admirals?
http://i699.photobucket.com/albums/v...t/kj9w_rot.jpg
Great pictures of Wilshire Coulters! I'm not an old tv expert but I own one of those Admirals! I was told, or saw a date on it, that mine is from 1949. It's bakelite - weighs a ton. http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...elle/IMG-3.jpg |
:previous: I didn't realize they were made of bakelite NCD...makes them that much more interesting.
Is the marble 'stand' next to the tv one of those super-ashtrays with electric cigarette lighter? |
