:previous: excellent FW.
__ Strike at Sycamore Cleaners in 1934. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/812/yykm.jpgebay I was able to locate the address in the 1939 Los Angeles City Directory. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/823/4o7u.jpg ..so could this be the same building? http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...0/841/uiry.jpgGSV -beneath the tree branch on the left I detect a familiar architectural ornament. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...0/203/i37o.jpgGSV Yep, there it is, and it matches perfectly with the 1934 'strike' photograph. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...90/46/on49.jpgGSV So what about the tall building in the distance that's visible in both the 1934 photo and in this contemporary street view? It's a 11 story Bekins Building that dates back to 1926. (1025 N. Highland Ave.) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...90/21/s1v9.jpg GSV Here's a 1926 view showing the roof-top twin radio towers (visible in the 1934 Sycamore Cleaners strike photo) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...90/46/glre.jpg http://hollywoodphotographs.com/ above: (Not to be confused with the 14 story 1928 Beverly Blvd. Bekins with it's roof-top speakeasies) Contemporary view. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...90/21/dkrc.jpg GSV ..and one more :) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...90/21/39pt.jpg GSV ___ |

...to be honest I'm a bit jealous I didn't locate the old Aero-School GW,
so I thought I'd check out the site myself just for fun. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...90/33/ip0m.jpg google_aerial Here's the view from Sperry Street showing the rounded end of the north building. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...90/34/j661.jpg GSV And on the opposite end of the property there's this stand-alone pylon. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...0/845/lz2s.jpg GSV kudos for the discovery GW! :) __ |

5846 San Fernando Road, Glendale I noticed this little survivor while looking for Aero Industries... Good shots of the school complex, ER. I was surprised to see that the buildings survived at all--pretty amazing that the lone pylon wasn't knocked down by a truck or something, somewhere along the line. |
:previous: lol. I can't believe you posted that photo. I saw the little animal hospital too and was going to post it (honest!).
We're in the same groove today GW. :) |
Movie director King Vidor driving a rather peculiar car. There's not much to it in the rear.
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/203/r8sf.jpg http://acertaincinema.com/ Is the round thing (that resembles a giant hand held mirror) in front of him a windshield? ..and is that small seat attached to the running board? Maybe this was used in filming. |
