Has anyone seen a rendering of this yet? We have floor counts, height estimates, budgets finalized--but no one has publicly scene what this thing is going to look like?

Good enough for me. Much respect for coming on here and responding to criticism in the manner that you did. I'm not sure I could have kept my composure like that.

I admit I was annoyed at the W brand for seemingly dangling their hotels in front of the city for the past few years, but I love this hotel idea and am all for it. It's such a great location too.

Article about why the W Hotel will be constructed, even with the current hotel owners in the banning against it

This is great news!

anddddd City Council approves $33 mill TIF subsidy for the W Hotel

So $33 mill from the city and $20 mill from the state. Looks like the W Hotel construction is a definite!!:tup::notacrook::notacrook:

Quote:

The TIF would offset $33 million of that cost, and the developers have secured an additional $25 million state grant, a $15 million loan from the federal department Housing and Urban Development and a related HUD grant of $2 million. In total, $75 million in public subsidies will cover 27 percent of the project cost.

Adding hotel rooms to the city is always a good thing. I can't wait for this thing to get built.

So how long until we get renderings?

I wonder how the hotel will take to the kids congregating outside the Wendy's?

theSisko Nov 8, 2013 1:59 PM

The article also mentions if approved by the full Council by November 21st (which is likely), construction should begin January 1st, 2014. I would imagine we will see renderings pretty soon.:notacrook:

That building was recently bought by another developer. I believe they're converting or renovating all of the upper floors and, when questioned about Wendy's, indicated they had to evaluate the changing rent on the block once they finished that conversion.

Obviously that leaves open the possibility that Wendy's stays, but it also might shift to take advantage of the proximity to a the tourist draw of love park, city hall, the new plaza and the ritz/W hotel developments.

MikeNigh Nov 8, 2013 3:34 PM

Getting rid of the wendy's would help clean up that area a lot.

See 6ABC video of W/Element Hotel in Philly. This video has a rendering of the building from Cope Linder.

duffey Dec 13, 2013 4:27 PM

that rendering is shorter than we'd hoped. just clipping bill's hat would put this around 550 ft. 15th tallest in the city…not 6th. maybe thats not the final rendering. very good news tho.

The first rendering is a 1:03. So far it looks pretty good but I still want to see it in more detail.

BenKatzPhillytoParis Dec 13, 2013 4:32 PM

Very cool. So this is clearly out in the media now. Anyone able to get their hands on a higher quality version?

MikeNigh Dec 13, 2013 4:34 PM

I think this and the dilworth plaza are going to be serious improvements for this area. The next step is get the wendy's out of there.
