No Amazon is from a state with no state income tax, as “blue” As Washington allegedly is, it’s just Seattle in a deep red rural state.

It’s all about the money guys, all about the most incentive they can get.

I mean the perception is that Arizona is very "red". Not nearly as much as 20 years ago. Again, this is not a political rant as I prefer to be seen as red. But, regardless, to compare the tax burden between Washington and Arizona is absurd. Washington is much higher. Yes, there are some "red" options remaining but it's just smoke and mirrors and an effort for the "finalists" to ante up concessions to AMZ. They will pick a blue state for sure. Mark it down. And, frankly, I'm not sure it's a fair deal for the locality that they pick. But you can't really put a price tag on prestige can you?

Sure thing! I work nearby, so I can hop over before work sometime.

I appreciate it. I think the new "mall" has a lot of potential if they can land an anchor like Forever 21 or H&M for the college kids. Here's hoping the hotel and apartment towers come together smoothly.

Hi, folks. Just before sunset, I did some wandering and got some shots of the progress downtown. Let's start at the Arizona Center, which is being remodeled.

Let's see how The Stewart is coming along.

There's a little bit more cladding on the parking garage walls. More vertical work on the seventh floor too.

The Stewart is going to do a nice job of filling in the space between the Westard Ho and Portland on the Park (right)

Lastly, this is beginning work at The Churchill, a retail and restaurant space that will be in shipping containers. This is at First and Garfield.

Thanks, everyone.

What drone are you using?

Great shots!

haux Jan 27, 2018 1:37 AM

Thanks. No drone. Just access to a parking garage. These are shot with a Canon 5D MkII and a 16-35 f/2.8 lens.

Ahhh - now that makes sense. The picture/field of view was too good for a consumer drone which is why I asked 😭

Fencing is finally up at 44th St north of Oak. Anyone know of any plans or renderings?

Hosting a bunch of clients at the Phoenix Open. Just booked a couple last-minute hotel rooms... Phoenix is close to being completely out of hotels this week!!!! The few hotels that still do have a few open rooms, are priced through the roof!

Sanctuary is asking $3,700 p/n (starting)
Four Seasons is asking for $2,500 p/n (starting)
Hotel Valley Ho, $819 (starting - though was able to book through Amex for $655)
W Scottsdale, $542 (starting)

Not just Scottsdale either. Downtown is essentially 100% booked. Nuts!

I know this is a "peak weak", but maybe it will help in determining how many of the new hotel projects get built.

gymratmanaz Jan 29, 2018 9:27 PM

fawd - p/n means per night? If so, DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing is overpriced if people are willing to pay for it and it sells out! :D

biggus diggus Jan 30, 2018 1:03 AM

When hotels advertise 4x-5x regular rates it often means they're sold out, they know that no one will pay the rate. The same thing happens in the car rental industry as well
