A few more pics from last weekend. Eventually, we'll be able to see into the lobbies of both Vanderbilt and 270 from this angle...

^ Steel looks to be about equal to 277 Park, which is 687 ft, which would just about put it at the halfway mark of 694 ft.
This is a little older... https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl6cCSLuZ0O/ https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...petr__vrba.jpg |

Different, but the same. The two largest of the new Midtown East, and how they meet the street.

This portion had to be rebuilt during the initial construction of 270 Park, at JP Morgan's expense because it was newly constructed at the time. It can be looked at as the first part of the building that is open, and is as far north as you can publicly go in the new concourse (between 47th and 48th). The storefronts in the terminal are not yet open. 28. https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...25_InPixio.jpg 29. https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...26_InPixio.jpg The video display... 30. https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...27_InPixio.jpg 31. https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...28_InPixio.jpg 32. https://a4.pbase.com/o12/06/102706/1...29_InPixio.jpg |
The opening of the concourse makes apparent the necessity of all those coming entrances to Madison Avenue that are a part of this new wave of office towers
The concourse is long, and being able to directly exit at 45th/47th/48th will save a lot of time for people heading to points north. |

^Yep.
There have been a handful of crybaby naysayers trying to make the claim that ESA doesn't really save all that much time for an East Side destination versus a departure @ Penn and subway trek back east once you figure how long it takes to get out of the terminal from the deep station. Hogwash. They were walking like they were strolling in the park and they were starting from 49th St at the far northern edge of the station and exiting at 42nd St after making a point to head right through the heaviest crowds. Some claimed 18 minutes to get from the platform, up the escalators, south down the new concourse and up and out through the 42 St door of GCT. This apparently is competitive with a reverse subway ride from Penn or so they claim. But this completely ignores exiting perpendicular to the new station through one of the new entrance lobbies in the office buildings to get to their destinations. In reality you can make that trip in about 5-6 minutes depending on people traffic. |
