---- I wish we had addresses on all of these great old Pasadena homes you've been finding, e_r. I figure they're all long gone, but even if there was one or two still standing in an altered condition, it would be cool to know they're not all completely vanished. |

Another Beverly-Fairfax puzzlement? Do any of the aerial photos depict this expansive enterprise? No reason for the recently discussed solitary Gilmore Station to coexist with this. Several prior posts also included photos of Gilmore's self-serve station. I notice all the GILMORE signs have the same 'S' shaped pattern within the 'O' is there any significance to this?

NE corner Los Angeles and Winston
For many years it was home to the Excelsior Laundry. The LA County Assessor says the building dates to 1895. Here it is on January 1, 1907, behind the two small houses:

Stillmore on the Gilmore...
It looks to me like after it was at the southeast corner of Beverly & Fairfax that it may have been moved south on Fairfax, with Herbert's Drive-In replacing it at the Beverly corner. Notice also what appear to be Beverly/Fairfax street signs... https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-f...2520AM.bmp.jpg The building at right is the one indicated by the red arrow below... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-g...FAIRARROWS.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5...2520AM.bmp.jpg You can see the stadium behind the station when it was at 7870 Beverly... https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-5...2520AM.bmp.jpg If the station was picked up and moved down Fairfax (and not a new one), it was turned 90 degrees. In city directories, V. L. Anderson, whose name appears on the station at 7870 Beverly, becomes merely a "gas sta atdt" by 1939...no indication if he may have moved with the building. Perhaps there were other branches in areas not covered by the L.A. CD (and perhaps we've seen them here), but in the 1942 edition there is only one Herbert's listed, at 7870 Beverly Blvd... . https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-U...0/herbets2.jpghttps://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-8.../herberts1.jpg jalopyjournal.com |

In the photo above we see thousands of people mesmerized to see these slow moving planes fly by. My grandmother used to tell of the thrill of riding in an automobile in 1910. |
