Can somebody dig up the previous renderings of this development from a couple years back? I don't remember thinking it was bad at all. If like to see them and these newer renderings side-by-side.
|
There are at least four different sets of renders that I'm aware, most appear to be available on google image search. This version is slightly less objectionable appearance wise from the one that preceded it IMO. The possible cinema component is a newish development AFAIK.

Question: is it too early to call the area Historic WeClarNAddA?

Interesting with the return of the planters (Chinese elms in 1937) as per Tribune "they were damaged by high winds and removed in the early '40s)." |
Are the rooftop clubs somehow protected from demolition? They are an integral part of the Wrigley "experience"
|
The Cubs have no interest in demolishing the rooftops. They offer party facilities, outside catering, and group packages for corporate events and other gatherings.
Even after renovations, Wrigley itself will not have these facilities to accommodate large groups so the rooftops offer something valuable to the organization. I could see them consolidating certain facilities and possibly joining adjacent buildings together. |

I just took a walk around the neighborhood and decided to go down Waveland since I had some time to kill. What is that two-ish story building being built between Clifton and Seminary?
It's really oddly situated. I can't recall anything that Wrigley was planning. Is this an independent development? |

so this area is getting totally revamped, good news. anything that replaces the McDonald will be OK in my book (well not anything but you know what i mean)

I haven't seen exterior renderings, but would not be surprised if it were either white brick or brick painted white. The old groundskeeper's house is the latter and they are going back to that the stadium itself will have recreated white stucco with green terracotta roof materials. There has been massive trenching between it and the stadium. That's why Waveland is closed there. All the cables and such necessary for modern broadcasting are going to be buried under the street. |
Best I can tell, the hotel will significantly alter Clark. There will be street-level retail and maybe even a pedestrian bridge from the "Triangle Lot" across the street. Previously, this area has been mostly parking lots, the McDonald's, and pop-up shops. The final designs of the Triangle Lot building were altered quite a bit since this original rendering from 2013 or so. The footprint and massing remains about the same. I guess we'll find out about the design of the hotel along Clark soon enough.

Pedestrian bridge is gone (thankfully) and yes there will be ground floor retail all along Clark, including a replacement of the existing McDonalds in one of the spaces.
