Yeah it's a steaming pile. But at least it's not some phony historic theme park looking BS

Can somebody dig up the previous renderings of this development from a couple years back? I don't remember thinking it was bad at all. If like to see them and these newer renderings side-by-side.

k1052 Dec 16, 2015 3:26 PM

There are at least four different sets of renders that I'm aware, most appear to be available on google image search. This version is slightly less objectionable appearance wise from the one that preceded it IMO. The possible cinema component is a newish development AFAIK.

Question: is it too early to call the area Historic WeClarNAddA?

Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney on 1060 Project update during the convention

Quote:

This season, the left-field terrace seats are being replaced.

The new clubhouse is progressing and will be ready by opening day. It will be one of the largest in baseball and the most expensive in history. Another video gives a sneak peek on the work. Phase 2 is more about steel structure in the stadium for the fans and the new player facilities. The new player spaces are 30,000 square feet.

Work on both the new plaza and hotel will be ongoing during the 2016 season.

Kenney says they are close to completing their journey from worst to first in terms of player facilities. He then shows pictures of the plan for the new plaza on the west side of the ballpark. This new plaza will be ready for opening day 2017.

The Cubs just announced the acquisition of three new rooftops. They also launched WrigleyRooftops.com for fans looking to book the rooftops.

They are also working on the center field bleachers to finish that part of the project. They’re bringing back the planters boxes from decades ago. There will also be an interactive history display on the bleacher concourse.

Interesting with the return of the planters (Chinese elms in 1937) as per Tribune "they were damaged by high winds and removed in the early '40s)."

Are the rooftop clubs somehow protected from demolition? They are an integral part of the Wrigley "experience"

ardecila Jan 17, 2016 9:14 PM

The Cubs have no interest in demolishing the rooftops. They offer party facilities, outside catering, and group packages for corporate events and other gatherings.

Even after renovations, Wrigley itself will not have these facilities to accommodate large groups so the rooftops offer something valuable to the organization.

I could see them consolidating certain facilities and possibly joining adjacent buildings together.

Looking to capitalize on that popularity and its newly acquired rooftops, the Cubs owners today relaunched WrigleyRooftops.com, a site that will showcase the nine Ricketts-owned rooftops as well as the Loukas-owned Sports Corner rooftop together.

Designed as an online starting point for fans seeking rooftop seats, the revamped site includes a 3-D map of the rooftop properties and 360-degree views from the seats atop each unit, as well as amenities and real-time ticket availability.

The cheapest tickets, which include all-you-can-eat-and-drink packages, start at $65 per person and will be priced higher based on the time of the season and magnitude of the series.

Each rooftop holds up to 200 people, and all of them will be operated and marketed by Sheffield-Waveland Rooftops, a management company owned by the Loukas family and run by George Loukas' kids, Nick and Stacey. (Crain's Chicago)
Most of these rooftops have been upgraded/renovated recently too.

I just took a walk around the neighborhood and decided to go down Waveland since I had some time to kill. What is that two-ish story building being built between Clifton and Seminary?

It's really oddly situated.

I can't recall anything that Wrigley was planning. Is this an independent development?

That's the new Broadcast Center. Many pictures (and regular detailed updates for the whole project) found here:

Good to know. Is there a rendering of the final product? I too, haven't heard of the Broadcast Center, guessing it will house all the AV equipment, etc?

Additionally, the Starbucks on Addison is closed, which means the Addison on Park project should be starting soon :uhh:

Also, according to the Cubs, we're about 3 weeks out until demo of McDonalds and the temporary Cubs store at Clark/Addison for the new mixed-use hotel project.

ChiTownWonder Feb 3, 2016 2:30 AM

so this area is getting totally revamped, good news. anything that replaces the McDonald will be OK in my book (well not anything but you know what i mean)

I haven't seen exterior renderings, but would not be surprised if it were either white brick or brick painted white. The old groundskeeper's house is the latter and they are going back to that the stadium itself will have recreated white stucco with green terracotta roof materials.

There has been massive trenching between it and the stadium. That's why Waveland is closed there. All the cables and such necessary for modern broadcasting are going to be buried under the street.

Best I can tell, the hotel will significantly alter Clark. There will be street-level retail and maybe even a pedestrian bridge from the "Triangle Lot" across the street. Previously, this area has been mostly parking lots, the McDonald's, and pop-up shops. The final designs of the Triangle Lot building were altered quite a bit since this original rendering from 2013 or so. The footprint and massing remains about the same. I guess we'll find out about the design of the hotel along Clark soon enough.

Pedestrian bridge is gone (thankfully) and yes there will be ground floor retail all along Clark, including a replacement of the existing McDonalds in one of the spaces.

City OKs Wrigley Field marquee face-lift—with one condition

Quote:

As a result, the landmarks panel approved a new interior to be installed to get it up to code, with front and side panels on the exterior of the sign salvaged and reinstalled. The team is also replacing neon lighting in the "Cubs” lettering on the sign and stripping off 24 layers of paint before repainting it the same red and white colors fans are used to seeing.

But the team and the landmarks commissioners butted heads over the most notable change to the sign: replacement of the digital LED portion of the marquee, which typically cycles through different team and sponsor messaging.

The landmarks commission staff had recommended that the LED sign, which was installed in 1983, should be replaced and upgraded “to match the existing in size and general appearance.”

But several commissioners were wary that the Cubs might program the sign in a way that looked too different from the way it has looked in the past.

“I don’t want to give carte blanche approval of (a new LED board) without it coming back before us if you’re going to change it dramatically,” said landmarks Commissioner James Houlihan.

Houlihan and others said they were less concerned with the content the Cubs show on the new LED than with how it would change the “street experience” of seeing it outside Wrigley.
