I found this aerial that predates the other two aerial I posted of Queen of Angels.
late 1930s http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...0/834/w1zs.jpg http://hollywoodphotographs.com/ I wonder if all those little bungalows just west of the main building belonged to the Franciscan Sisters. below: I thought this was the Victorian that appears in the aerials, but after I compared them I'm not so sure they match up. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...0/843/afu6.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...0/845/sg9n.jpg https://www.flickr.com/photos/65359853@N00/6753467395/ detail http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...0/842/olix.jpg __ The interior of the chapel at Queen of Angels Hospital, circa 1951. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...0/834/3j5g.jpg https://www.flickr.com/photos/65359853@N00/ The front entrance of the hospital circa 1960s. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...0/834/j8eq.jpg https://www.flickr.com/photos/65359853@N00/ __ |

Broadway Palace Market
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/836/csve.jpg ebay The Schaber's Cafeteria building currently stands at 622 S. Broadway. I'm sure the postcard predates this wonderful building. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/836/2ugr.jpg GSV (this is out dated) an earlier view from way back on page 304. Quote:

Not really noirish, but cool anyway. Bert had a lot of friends and in 1938 they decided to show him how much. It's solid copper with silver plate. Weights 19 lbs. I've been told the names engraved are mostly LA business men and local politicians who favored the Paris Inn and Lucca's. If anybody would like a list of the names, email me your request at rdrovere@hotmail.com. Be glad to share it.
Thank-you Hoss, I'm working on it. |

http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...dsBroadway.jpg California State Library LAPL date this picture as 1935, but it's obviously much earlier. On the left you can clearly see "622" and most of the word "MARKET" (I'm assuming it's the end of Broadway Palace Market). It's a shame the picture isn't a little wider. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...umBroadway.jpg LAPL |

Bert's place Lucca on 5th and Western. Bert's nephew Lawrence ( my dad ) was the general manager from 1945 until it closed in 1955. How sad a fast food place sits where it used too. |
Palmer Conner slides at Huntington Digital Library
The rest of the 500 plus images should be up late tonight; will take a couple hours to upload them all. Then supervisor still has to approve the records but should available for viewing this weekend.

-so glad the old (1911) Orpheum building is still with us. (notice that one of the bronze sconces is missing in the B/W photo above) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/835/5ltb.jpg http://www.usapics.net/palace-theater-los-angeles.html interior: Orpheum (later Palace) Theater. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/838/od4t.jpg http://theatrehistoricalsociety.file...-5-24-left.jpg I've never seen side balconies arranged quite like that. It's almost like they were tacked on. The beauty shop seems to be getting top billing in this 1945 photo. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/842/8odf.jpg http://www.allyquest.com/photos.cgi?set=5 note the Newsreels blade sign at right. |
