That's good. Indian Rosewood (another name for Sissoo) are extremely fast growers, love the sun, and are drought tolerant.

I planted two sissoos in my yard in early 2011. They are now 30-40 foot tall with nice canopies.

I was going to guess Chinese pistache! They are beautiful trees that have fall colors.

I have a Chinese Pistache in my yard and they are great trees with beautiful canopies. They drop leaves in the winter, for a couple weeks and are very clean the rest of the year. However, Sissiou trees are dirtier and messier than Bill O'Reilly's taint. They drop leaves all year long and get ungainly if they are not taken care of. They do provide shade though and are fast growers.

This is definitely a possibility that I didn't think about.

They couldn't build a 4 story hotel on the Hanny's lot without it overhanging the street.

It's far too small for a parking garage.

Like I said... we're not even close to reaching saturation levels for residential living in DT Phoenix

This is also good news for the Derby. Despite the lawsuit with the Derby, the city is proceeding with issuing GPLETs. In my mind, means the city has a strong case.

Anyone catch the end of the article, small blurb about Circles building.

Quote:

Also at the meeting, a lawyer representing owners of the downtown Circles building asked the council when they could get a hearing on their request for a city tax break. Negotiations stalled last year after a surprise demolition of the historic building angered community members and the city.

Councilman Michael Nowakowski said he also wanted to hear the request at a council meeting. It's unclear if that request will move forward.

Behind a paywall... Can anyone assist?

You guys were asking about the old Downtown Deli spot the other day, Tucker Woodbury is re-opening the deli.

Re-opening the deli? Cool stuff.

In Roosevelt Row news, Lawn Gnome has announced its closing in the near future. What an utter shame, 5th St. has been depleted completely in the last 6 months. 3 businesses will remain come summer.

With the major Development going on a block away I didn't expect those single family homes to be long for the world.

I doubt they'll be demolished. Fifth Street is just about the only block in Evans-Churchill with intact original housing stock on both sides of the street -- unlike other places where a bungalow has been left sticking out like a sore thumb among vacant lots. I think it's more likely that the property will be incorporated into Desert Viking's "Blocks of Roosevelt Row" project or something similar involving upgrades and expansion.

Phxguy Apr 22, 2017 7:37 PM

I'm agreeing with exit2lef on this one. I doubt they'd rip down those old homes, seeing how much animosity stirred up when we lost a few buildings on Roosevelt due to Baron developments. I'm more worried that, since Blocks on Roosevelt took over 5th, they effectively killed the organic pedestrian/urban vibe that we in PHX hunger for so much (most the homes are now empty now) and I'm hoping they return life to the area without making it feel like something vanilla or out of Scottsdale. I'm excited for this project however, I'm plenty looking forward to it completion.

Speakeasy coming soon to the upstairs at Grand Central Coffee (which is now a 24/7 place w/late night menu).

"A man who fought the city over his downtown parking lot – and won millions - now wants to build a parking garage at the high-profile corner at Jefferson and First Streets."

If the Diamondbacks and the Suns both stay downtown, this might pencil out. Given the uncertainly over their plans, this seems pretty speculative. Downtown already has a parking surplus.

There's all the parking they would need for Barrister. Drop the podium for more residential floors!

Jebus does this guy suck. He's one of downtown's most notorious land bankers as well.

I hope he builds this thing and goes bankrupt.

Well, hopefully the city is a little bitter about losing a few mill and denies the zoning request...

More good news for downtown, With Quicken moving into the old Phelps Doge tower and now this: http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/n...p-opening.html

San Francisco-based financial services startup Upgrade Inc. is opening its first expansion office in downtown Phoenix, with plans to potentially hire up to 300 people.
Hopefully we can get downtown competing for more tech/finance offices instead of losing them all to Tempe and Price Road.
