MTA chair rips Senate Republicans over ‘Hunger Games’ airline bailout

Robert PozaryckiSeptember 24, 2020

Senate Republicans — who are in a hurry to fill Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Supreme Court seat on or about Election Day — have been slow to care about public transit, according to Pat Foye, who charged that they’re “ignoring the massive needs of public transportation agencies across the country” while attempting to “prop up private airlines, which have billion-dollar stock market capitalizations.”

after 14st in manhattan and recently jay street in downtown brooklyn, the south bx gets the next busway across 149st.

not sure if its a full busway only conversion with no cars allowed though — it doesn’t sound like it. but anything will help with the pokey bx19 and other buses on that street.

they should extend this busway ne up southern blvd and west across 145st in manhattan too while they are at it!

As per Fox5NY news at the moment, if the feds don't intervene with additional assistance, the MTA might be forced to cut train and bus service by 40%.

Something like ridership is down 75%.

chris08876 Oct 13, 2020 9:33 PM

Although come to think about it, maybe now is not the time to put congestion pricing. Folks are hurting, last thing they need is another form of tax. Maybe wait until Corona is over, and than consider it once folks are back on good financial feet.

These percentages prove that governments can never operate anything financially wise. A company, any company, facing a 75% loss in business is going to cuts its costs 75% to match, not 40%. Of course, that assumes revenues being collected match its number of riders.

Busy Bee Oct 14, 2020 12:23 AM

Most businesses aren't subsidized with taxpayer dollars for the greater good and to facilitate commerce, so not exactly the same thing.

yes, yes you are right, and since traffic also fell off gov should cut off all road and bridge work. why bother? hell cut off traffic, law, fire and rescue in cbd's too. since no one is down there and everyone can work remotely it's a waste. and if those covid or whatever cases can not pay, they should be turned away. my goodness, you are really on to something here, all gov should be privatized. think of all the $ that could be saved. are you a wizard?

If Biden wins they'll borrow to cover the gap until a new fiscal package knowing he'll make it rain.
