It's a good angle, but most here(me included) find the best perspective to be from the South(McCormick Center and nearby)

the building looks so much better without a crane (you will rarely read those words posted from this account, i'm a true construction fan).

Haven't shot NEMA much, but finally took a trip over on Saturday afternoon. Glad I finally did. Really impressive up close from the SE corner.

That last photo there, Nick... wow you managed to make the Museum Park towers quite majestic if I say so myself!

Thanks Truthfully, I was really surprised how cool the backside view of these three towers is. For a moment I felt like I was seeing new architecture in a different city. I think a lot of cool photos will be had once this tower is fully complete.

I agree. This doesn't read Chicago for so many reasons. But I love the diversity.

Really? To me it's a younger relative to the Sears Tower.

colemonkee Apr 16, 2019 2:43 PM

I agree. I feel like the similarity/homage to Sears Tower is unmistakable.

maru2501 Apr 16, 2019 4:25 PM

there's some signage going up on the north face today (relatively low) that I assume is temporary.. the "NE.." were up as of mid morning, which I guess will spell NEMA and what, a phone number?
The N and E were entire floors tall

No, I meant the last of Nick's 3 photos just doesn't look like Chicago to me in any way. Dubai or Miami perhaps.

All new shiney high-rises - no older building stock.

Just saw that, I'd guess you're spot on. Might say NEMA RENT and then a number below

I definitely see the resemblance, but from this angle, OMP, and it's neighbor look like completely different buildings. Throw in NEMA (which is relatively new) and to me it looks 'foreign' in a sense.

Long story short, I haven't taken any photos of the backside of these developments, let alone from so close, so it's just a completely fresh look to me.

The Lurker Apr 17, 2019 3:23 PM

I agree with both points. If you showed that shot to 100 people 15 years ago, none of them would guess it's Chicago.

However NEMA does without question pay homage to Sears (bundled tube) and Vinoly himself has made it clear that was the intention.

The relationship between the two is incredible coming in from the south. Together they absolutely dominate and yet beautifully frame the rest of the skyline. Like a gateway into the city formed by two buildings that couldn't be more "Chicago"

Anybody got a recent shot from Comiskey Park area?
