Good job in finding 'mystery' location #2 Hoss.
Here's the large building at the end of the street. (northeast corner of E. Vernon and Alameda Street) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...922/UwLkNm.jpg gsv Do we know anything about Williams Warehouse Distribution Center? I see there used to be an old railroad spur on the north side of the property. (or adjacent) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/VZc2s5.jpg __ |
This is a great photograph CBD.

but I'm still kinda' confused by which direction we're looking (sorry) edit: I just reread your precise directions. I think I got it now. This interesting survivor is in the immediate area (on 31st). I've posted about this residence several yrs ago on nla. (the apartment bldg on the right has since been torn down) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/pOTfyY.jpg gsv Do you know who built this house GW? (maybe you already told us, but I couldn't find the older posts) It's directly across from the old Stewart family homestead house that t2 mentioned earlier today. __ |
This evening's 'mystery' location.
"4 x 5 Original Negative, Los Angeles Street, Intersection and Vintage Signs, 1947" http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...924/z8RsCr.jpg ebay (to be honest, I'm keeping a key detail from you....but I want to see if you wunderkinds can nail the location ;)) __ |
Here's something a little different than the previous 4 x 5 negatives.
"1950's 4x5 Negative~Miss Panama beauty queen, Los Alamitos Naval Air Station." http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...923/vQIVUU.jpg http://www.ebay.com/itm/1950s-4x5-Ne...IAAOSwAuNW276S Do you think they're posing outside the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium? (the Miss Universe pageant was held there in the 1950s) Miss Panama is what you'd call...cute as a button. :) -the little girl in the swimming suit is wearing some sort of crown for the festivities. __ |

My brother and our babysitter were involved in a car accident on Brand Blvd while crossing the street in Glendale when I was four years old. Our real names got into the newspapers and caused big problems for my mother. Next day we had to leave town in the middle of the night. After that, we used alias names. My brother and I stayed with our relatives [left] while we boys were trying to lay low....that's my mom and stepfather [right]. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...pse7gdqauz.jpg file I had my alias name ''confirmed'' by the US Navy when I enlisted during the Vietnam Draft era. My Passport still uses this alias name. The State Department said it was ok with them. |

She's adorable, and the one of the few performers on the show in the 70's and 80's who had any soul at all. Not a lot of decent pics of her online, sadly. (okay, full disclosure: my wife and I will, on occasion, properly fortified of course, watch LW on PBS. I'm not proud, but I'm not stopping.) https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/268/32...a6e550d1_z.jpg http://welkmusicalfamily.com/anacani9.html https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3937/3...485c9a000c.jpg http://welkmusicalfamily.com/anacani9.html We've seen some Lawrence on the thread before, thanks to ER. UPDATE: 510 West 31st was built in the fall of 1896 by Jerome B. Anjer--a retired Pittsburg(h) manufacturer (he died in LA at 89 or 90 in 1910).... He moved to 31st from a house at 425 East 29th St, which also still stands: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/hB...Q=w600-h515-no Quote:
I'm not sure the "mother" looks old enough to be Miss Panama's parent...as for the officer...you might be right about the hand and that he seems to "feel" the need to hold his helmet "just so".... I wonder if the Sunbeam Alpine is his or hers? |

Re: the 31st and Fig pictures, and the carriage house.
In that neighborhood, back in the early to mid '60s, there were a few big houses - some cut up into apartments - that still had carriage houses opening onto alleys. We used to hang out, and hold band practice, in a carriage house near 32nd and Hoover. We scavenged couches, lamps and other furniture, and set up a stereo. Very fine times. |
