Chipotle isn't that good. Even this Oklahoma tex-mex crap is better than Chipotle... hell even Filiberto's is better and way cheaper

I've been saying that for a long long time. Chipotle is a cleaner, more expensive but less tasty version of all the 'Bertos around town.

Just an opinion, you don't have to get butt hurt over differences of opinion. We each state our case and opinions; I have a bowl or burrito from the place once in a blue moon when in a hurry. It is what it is...

My thoughts exactly.

Speaking of the 'Bertos places, are they all owned by the same company? Or is it just a lot of copycats trying to cash in on Filibertos' fame?

azliam Dec 17, 2011 5:36 PM

I'm thinking we need a separate food thread...:runaway:

The later.

They were originally brothers (Federico and filiberto) and broke up.

Chipotle is privately owned. McDonald's divested their majority ownership interest years ago.

Vicelord John Dec 18, 2011 3:01 AM

Ok.

Who used to own chipotle? Lol I'm just playing devils advocate. It is chainy fast food overpriced crap, but I still like it.

If one can believe wikipedia, that is not true (the privately owned part). It is traded on the NYSE as CMG.

I think he was asking about Juliobertos and its ilk.

Chipotle was started by Steve Ells in Denver in 1993. In 1998 McDonalds acquired a majority interest and operated the chain as a separate division. In October of 2006 McDonalds spun off
(similar to an initial public offering) Chipotle as a separate public company and fully divested its interest with the offering.

Through 2007 one could have bought their stock around $50. and then again after the market meltdown. Earlier this year, the stock reached a high near $350 but has pulled back
under current market conditions to around $320. It is one of the most successful restaurants since the spin off.

Since 2011 began, Chipotle has hired talented James Beard award-winner Nate Appleman as its culinary manager, started to add healthier items to many of its outposts and launched an Asian spin-off brand called ShopHouse.

Let me say Thumbs Up for such "digital" creativity. BTW, which digit was that?

But five stories--in a struggling neighborhood, no less, poses a problem? Goode is being a numbskull of the lowest order by opposing something not only compatible but would bring new residents and investment. I can't freaking believe he would bite off his nose to spite his face like that.

The initial rendering looks quite fine to me.

Eventually I would hope for density closer to the core to reach/include 8/10/12 story buildings. Any "density" of 4-5 stories is desirable anywhere near downtown/light rail.

Also, did people notice the thing about GROUND FLOOR retail? This is exactly the sort of project that people have in mind when they say transit oriented development; makes it better in my book than a lot of more "impressive" projects with no street level interaction.

Exactly!!

For a mouth watering tease, you can view Denver's newest proposal for a full block development here:

But as I've said it wasn't always thus. You need to walk before..... but I'm still a big believer that the downtown area will sprout and catch fire.

/\What is that? Looks like a new fence for the Children's museum?

Vicelord John Dec 19, 2011 6:12 PM

yup, sorry there was no commentary, I posted while I was driving to work from my phone.

Yes, it's a new fence, they started today.

TakeFive Dec 19, 2011 8:30 PM

And One More Thing.... (hehe)

The residential market is clearing up pretty good now especially within central Phoenix. I'm just sure that along the light rail line that residential construction is not that far off.
The light rail TOD can quickly bring a whole new level of cool to the area.

I also recall a Downtown Denver Partnership dude asserting that while in suburbs retail always follows rooftops.... for potential urban core residents, they want to see the retail (often)
before they find an area desirable. But with CityScape and other misc. new retail infill plus an already existing nice offering of restaurants the table is set.

Chipotle, for example, being from Denver seems to believe in the future of Central Phoenix. 'Nuff said.
