The new blurry drawings policy is bad

So a user discovered that the under construction and proposed blurry thing is a new policy ._.

This should be reverted, this is a really bad decission, the porple want to see the drawings, why doing this, we not received any explanation about this, this change was made for watever reason without asking the users if it can be a good idea, and really is dont a good idea

Also i liked this quote from the user Maldive

QUOTE=Maldive;9641313]This is utterly absurd and will destroy one of the most unique things about ssp imo - diagrams that sketch the future of cities (under construction and proposed projects).

What illustrator is only going sketch built projects? "Gee I think I'll spend hours and hours drawing this exciting future skyscraper and then hope my grandchildren get see what I drew."

This will kill the diagram pages (has ruined them already). Ridiculous and insulting to all the illustrators who contributed their work to this website.[/QUOTE]

Also if this dont get fixed i think a lot of illustrators will stop sending drawings for this site, that is bad, we need to make decissions to atract more people, like putting more people to accept drawings (i would like to help with that)

If the managers take more bad decissions this site will die

Edit: this appears when you press "upload drawing"

Wow. That's unexpected.

I don't see this policy encouraging more existing structures to be drawn among existing illustrators. Some will just quit drawing. This could work long term depending on how many new illustrators SSP accepts every year under this new policy.

I'm probably a little biased as my interests are more in existing buildings than what could be (although what could be has never been taller) . This is probably due to the legalities of creating illustrations from renderings.

Not a good decision

I agree, this is not a good decison specially for us Ilustrators that may spent hours drawing and at the end nothing but a blur shape will be posted. I work hard on having my cities diagram up to date and its exciting when we have a new building under construction or proposed and personally like to add and see how it will look amoung the other buildings. Hopefully they will go back to how it was as I think it did not hurt anyone. In the meantime I´ll hold off from adding buildings to the site as well as drawings.:???::???:

I think Dylan's decision makes sense to some extent.
Because I also don't prefer to draw buildings under construction or planning.
It may not match the actual completion, and there is a hassle of having to redraw after completion.
But I am also not positive about this blurring.

However, it is regrettable that this was carried out arbitrarily without discussion with users.
Blurred diagrams look ugly and ruin the harmony of the diagrams.
so nobody is going to try to draw under construction and proposed building

Rather than blurring, it would have been better to display the following message.
"This drawing may not be accurate compared to the actual completion."
But if he had to do this, I don't think it had to be a blur to propose and vision.

It's up to you to continue drawing the diagram or to stop it. It is not a right idea to criticize the person who continues to drawing

The blurry look doesn't only make the diagram look ugly and less realistic, it is also very frustrating for illustrators who spent lots of time to create the drawings.
People who watch it for the first time might only think it is a really bad drawing! And it is not only blurry, the angles suddenly look sharp and horrible, giving a really amateurish look!
I don't want to have my name on these blurry drawings if it will be long term.
But I understand know this is for legal reasons, hope it will be solved very soon.

terrible decision

it really came out of nowhere and there was seriously no need for it, no surprise that the amount of drawings every week gets lower and lower

Is it just me or when looking at diagrams of buildings under construction, the pictures of the buildings are blurred out? This is really annoying. Any idea when it will be fixed?

Yes, that's apparently a feature now or something. Really annoying

It's especially annoying on this page:

what the heckkers? why is the blur happening? was it on purpose for some reason???

koops65 Jul 18, 2022 6:09 PM

Supposedly because of copyight infringement.

mrnyc Jul 20, 2022 1:58 PM

^ o geez.

i wonder if they can unblur when there is an official public announcement?

towerpower123 Aug 3, 2022 11:47 PM

It would be great to be able to have a toggle switch to shut off the blur. It makes the diagrams rather unusable for model dimensions or anything else

I would venture that those drawings, which are accurate to scale, re-imagining of u/c and proposed projects, not absurdly mis-leading developer render-promises that are rarely delivered.... have also amounted to free advertising and promotion of those projects... and likely contributed, on occasion, to developers' bottom-line (sales).

O-tacular Aug 18, 2022 4:11 PM

What a load of legal bullshit. Obviously some chintzy developers who VE'd their projects sent a letter to the website because they got pushback over a bait and switch. The only unique thing SSP had that Skyrise doesn't is the diagrams. They are what drew me to this site to begin with. This decision will kill SSP in the long run.

HomrQT Oct 16, 2022 3:59 AM

Sad to see it. The diagrams are one of the major draws of this website.

rgarri4 Oct 17, 2022 9:14 PM

Wow was wondering what the heck was going on. Thought for the longest time that the website was glitching. Very stupid decision. Hope it gets changed back asap.

Haeschke Oct 23, 2022 4:31 PM

I can only agree that the blurred diagrams are a bad decision. I dont know much about the legal situation though.

I hope that there will be some kind of alternative solution for this, maybe some kind of disclaimer that has to be agreed upon watching the diagrams. Anything is better than that blurred stuff.

rgarri4 Oct 27, 2022 12:08 AM

Yeah I don't understand the legal side of it. Did SSP get called out by a particular developer or something? Are they going to blur all the renderings we post on here as well? lol

UniDerp Oct 27, 2022 4:21 AM

The images are still hosted unblurred on the website so I'm sure someone with knowledge of Userscripts could write a script to reverse the change.

Anyone up for it?
